A Love Not Meant To Be

(An Ode To The Only One Who (N)Ever Loved Me)

In a summer where birds sang loud and the sun shone bright
My world view was up-beat (and you know thats not right)
Met a soul with a story of sorrow and sadness
Eyes shone like jewels (or were those fires of madness?)

If ignorance really was bliss - I'd be the happiest one alive
For I surely have no clue why this love between us died
'Where did it go wrong ?' cry my thoughts, oh, so cruel!
Or was it never 'right', you playing me for the fool

and maybe one day, you and I will come to agree,
that ours was a love simply not meant to be.

When you said "I love you" were you words for you alone
Or did you really mean it, (the seeds of hate not yet sown?)
Before your words were "you are all that mattered"
Now, by your silence, my heart torn and shattered

Where once before lay happiness and joy
You cast me aside like an old broken toy
where dreams turn to ashes and love turns to hate
I'll leave you with your twisted bitterness (to fate)

Severed from your binding ties, I'm now free
From what I must call 'a love not meant to be.'

I drowned myself in drink then came to realise
that alcohol doesn't go as far as your lies
But now its all over (and once again I chase my dreams)
leaving you alone, with sadistic plots and schemes

Now when the world for us ends with the dying of the light
The good go to Heaven (us down below) if the Christians were right
You know we'd meet again there, (can't you tell ?)
because an eternity with you is my sick idea of Hell

While Satan rubs his hands together in glee,
uniting us forever in a love not meant to be.
