The Tears Of The Earth.

"We never had a warning!" You could hear the spirits cry.
As the holocaustal bomb dropped and the world began to die.
A mushroom cloud above the city suddenly appeared,
And people started praying, "Thou was what we'd always feared."

Television told us all the horror and dismay,
To us safe in our houses over half a world away.
And we looked up at the skies above and prayed they'd spare our lives.
But in our beds asleep at night the deathbringer arrived.

And the tears of the Earth and the blood of the land
Will never wash clean from Humanity's hands.
Those in power made Gaia our slave
And turned this, our planet, into a planetary grave.

As those men in power carried on their foolish schemes,
Manipulating all in their matricidal dreams.
As if they thought that playing God would harbour some reward,
They chose the quick solution over war with guns and swords.

Cities lay in ruins, corpses lined the streets.
Not even vultures in the skies preparing for a feast.
Just deathly quiet, the skies above, shrouded in black rain.
Not even one voice left to echo Gaia's pain.

And the tears of the Earth and the blood of the land
Will never wash clean from Humanity's hands.
Those in power made Gaia our slave
And turned this, our planet, into a planetary grave.

When at last the killing ended under their control,
They smiled, surveyed the damage, took the bloody toll.
The deed was done, the war was theirs. Victory all around!
But what they saw beneath their feet: Scorched and dying ground.

Only then did they turn and wonder whether what they did was right.
In that long distance conflict, they had surely shown their might.
They'd had the power over life and death; And did decide.
Even with the generations whose futures they'd denied.

And the tears of the Earth and the blood of the land
Will never wash clean from Humanity's hands.
Those in power made Gaia our slave
And turned this, our planet, into a planetary grave.
